Earth Day – 2022

PRIMAA’s goal is to create awareness and have an impact for both People and Planet on the issues related to climate change in Chennai, through direct action with a focus on community-based solutions approach via volunteer capacity building.

PRIMAA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Anna Adarsh College for Women (ACCW) – English Department. ACCW is managed by the Punjab Association, an institution steeped in philanthropy and social services.

PRIMAA Enterprise and ACCW, English Department organized a ‘Guardians Of Gaia’ Festival to celebrate Earth Day 2022 and created creative ways to raise awareness of water and plastic issues in Chennai.

The Festival was kicked-off with an Earth Day Rally on April 19th, 2022 in Anna Nagar close to the river Cooum, marching with slogans on water conservation and singing water conservation songs in many languages. Anna Nagar Municipal Councilor, Mrs. J. Pushpalatha flagged off the Rally along with other dignitaries from Chennai Municipal Corporation including Mr. Nandagopal, A.E. and Mr. Suresh Kumar P.T.V., Deputy A.E. CMWSSB participated along with 150+ students, faculty and well-wishers.

Inter-collegiate and inter-department competitions on Climate Action themes on Water and Environmental issues were organized as part of the festival, with Poetry Slams, Visual Arts, Slogan writing, and other activities to bring awareness to the public in a creative manner.

The Festival highlight was a performance of a Contextual Play called ‘Tales of Water Pakkam’, which was devised and performed by student volunteers and PRIMAA with guidance and Direction from Mr. Varun Aiyer.

Earth Day Festival culminated into a Grand Finale with a Valedictory event on April 22nd 2022 on the College campus. Mr. Krishna Mohan Ramachandran, Chief Resilience Officer, Resilient Cities Network was the Chief Guest.

The traveling play of ‘Tales of Water Pakkam’ was also performed by the students in Anna Tower Park, Chennai. It was well-received by the general public as an awareness building on the environmental topics.
